Committees

The club is organized into a number of interest and service committees, supporting all areas of astronomy and public relations.

AAI also conducts an annual Qualified Observers Course, where members are instructed to operate our 24-inch Cassegrain telescope. A Senior Qualified Observers Course is available for QO’s wishing to operate our 10-inch refracting telescope.

AAI is a non-profit organization; therefore, any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible.

The Executive Committee consists of the officers and the chairs of all the standing committees. The Executive Committee meets once a month at the observatory on the Thursday 1 week (eight days) before the General Meeting. General Meetings are held on the third Friday of each month from September through May. During the Summer months when there are no General Meetings, the Executive Meetings are scheduled as if there were General Meetings.

To repeat, the Exec meetings are always eight days prior to the third Friday. Note that in some months, the Exec meeting is NOT the second Thursday.

Meetings usually begin at 8pm, but the start time may be a little later to accommodate other functions that are sometimes scheduled in the observatory.

Any member in good standing is invited to attend the Executive Committee meetings.

Projects

Exoplanet Transit Observations: training on Saturday January 23, 4-6 PM at Sperry Observatory by Dennis Conti. We plan to observe specific exoplanet transits in cooperation with the American Association of Variable Star Observers (https://www.aavso.org/exoplanet-section) to provide synchronous observations with infrared observations done from the Hubble Space Telescope. Dennis Conti will also lead a trial observation that evening, weather permitting.

NOTE: Because of the big snow storm on January 23, the workshop by Dennis Conti for training us on Exoplanet Transit Observations has been postponed to Saturday February 6, 2016 from 4-6 PM at Sperry Observatory.

Citizen CATE (http://www.noao.edu/noao/staff/mpenn/eclipse2017.html) is enlisting amateur astronomers to run CCDs on small telescopes during the total solar eclipse of August 2017.

AAI Astronomy Day, afternoon activities at Trailside Nature and Science Center, evening activities at Sperry Observatory.
